Lisette Mckenzie LCMHCA, LCASA, CTP, NCC

I am the owner of The Broken Crayon Initiative, PLLC. I received my master’s degree in counseling from Walden University and here is what led to it…

From being a teen parent to years of living in a physically, emotionally and verbally abusive relationship, I overcame the visible odds. What I didn’t recognize was that my personal and professional successes were stagnated from the invisible damage that kept me withdrawn from my family, friends and myself. I called it introversion and while I may be cut from the same cloth, I felt like either there was something missing from my fabric or something more to it that I was missing altogether. I felt lost, unwhole, empty, and sad when I wasn't angry, explosive, and confused. Other words that wore my shoes were shame, doubt, guilt, hopelessness, helplessness, like a failure and BROKEN.

I’ve, definitely, been through some things that were meant to break me so I get it! Which is why my mission is to help people like you who are in the midst of a struggle free themselves from the chains that are keeping them from achieving their highest quality of happiness in life. My goal is to help you seek out healthier, happier and more rewarding life experiences and relationships starting with yourself!

My Approach

Eclectic best describes my approach to therapy. Every individual is unique even if the situation seems similar. I believe your therapeutic journey should be customized to YOUR uniqueness and not the familiarity of THE SITUATION. I believe authenticity is the root to creating a harmonized counselor/client relationship capable of promoting exploration, growth and healing. My approach integrates elements of several perspectives including Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Narrative Therapy, Rational-Emotive Behavioral Therapy (REBT), and Internal Family Systems Therapy (IFS).
